What is a Mother's Blessing?
Belly Blessing / Mother’s Blessing
A mother’s blessing is such a lovely way to celebrate the mother and mark your transition into motherhood or motherhood again. In America there is a tradition of ‘Baby Showers’ a gathering before the birth of a child, to congregate and well wish the mother. A Mother’s Blessing is a way of honouring the time before birth, to incorporate elements of ritual or blessing to the belly or the space (if you having a home birth) as well as sharing some special time before the baby with your closest family and friends.
This is me 2 years ago today, exactly 3 weeks before my son was born. My wonderful mum (who runs Magpie Ceremonies) and my sisters held a mother’s blessing for me, and my mum painted my belly with part of the Kahlil Gibran Poem ‘On Children’.

‘You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.’

Life has changed a lot since then, and currently as we are unable to meet face to face, maybe you could hold a virtual mother’s blessing and close family and friends could post you something special.
A book, poem, bath salts or a yummy treat maybe?!
I’d love to help arrange an in person or virtual mother’s blessing to help you celebrate the imminent time before your baby’s arrival!
