TRUST YOURSELF.
These pictures are from a book that my mum gave me when I was pregnant with my first, it’s a book from the 80’s, a book that she read when she had me. New Active Birth by Sheila Kitzinger. It was the only book I read and it really resonated with me.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how things have changed in the pregnancy and birth world. One thing that really stands out to me is how in recent years there is SO much more information available. Books, podcasts, social media, blogs.... Don’t get me wrong this is amazing, but I think I can also be really overwhelming and leave you questioning what matters to you.
I think it’s so important to get clued up about your options but I just wanted to remind you all to trust yourself and your body, in pregnancy, birth and motherhood. When you get pregnant you are bombarded with information and opinions like never before (often ones that you haven’t asked for!) Knowledge is power, but intuition is something far more special.
As a Doula, it’s all about the mothers and birthing people for me - babies are magical but helping a parent to feel empowered and confident in their own abilities is key.
I’m not there to give advice or tell you how to do things, but to empower you to find what works for you, as it won’t be the same as what worked for me! You know your baby better than anyone, and you have all you need inside you to be the parent they need. Not a ‘perfect’ one, but always good enough.
